Major reconstruction work continues this week on the water tower on 13th Street in Avalon. Work crews continue some exterior work on the water tower which will extend the life of the structure. The work began in late September, and is expected to take about eight weeks to finish. Scaffolding has been erected around the water tower, and crews are stripping the exterior paint and repainting it with three coats. The New Jersey American Water Company has an inspector on site to ensure that all safety and engineering regulations are met. On Tuesday, Avalon plans on demolishing its old public safety building which is located next to a new public safety building, on Dune Drive. Photos taken by Joseph P. Breslin Jr.
