LOWER TOWNSHIP COPS BUST MAN IN DOMESTIC INCIDENT

Lower Township police arrested a 60 year old man over the weekend after he threatened the officer with a wooden pole during a domestic dispute. Police arrested Elwood Probst during a dispute that took place on West Greenwood Avenue in the Villas Sunday afternoon. Probst had went to the home of his wife and trashed the house, and returned later in the day. Police say Probst told two officers that they would have to shoot him. Probst eventually complied and dropped the piece of wood and surrendered to police. He was charged with attempted aggravated assault on police officers, and other offenses.

MAN EARNS $100,000 BAIL OVER NASAL SPRAY

Ocean City police have arrested a 62 year old man on charges that he attempted to steal a bottle of nasal spray from a pharmacy...and then assaulted a store clerk in the process. Frank Maclaine was charged with aggravated assault and robbery after he tried to steal a bottle of nasal spray from a Rite Aid pharmacy back on July 2nd. According to police, Maclaine shoved a clerk several times and then used his vehicle to get by the clerk in the parking lot. Maclaine left the bottle of nose spray behind. His bail was set at $100,000 cash.

MIDDLE TWP. MAN CHARGED WITH SEX CRIME AGAINST MINOR

A 24 year old Whitesboro man has been charged with having sex with a 15-year old girl. Middle Township police arrested Marquis Cheeks and charged him with aggravated sexual assault. Cheeks allegedly entered a home early Sunday morning and committed the sex crime. Cheeks was also charged with burglary, and was taken to the Cape May County Jail on $500,000 cash bail.

MIDDLE COPS CHARGE WILDWOOD MAN WITH ROUTE 47 WRECK

A 29 year old Wildwood man who tried to grab his cell phone while driving caused a two-vehicle accident on Route 47 Monday morning. Middle Township police charged Jeffrey Latimer for causing an accident with another vehicle in Green Greek. Latimer's car struck another vehicle driven by Kim Milburn of Cape May. Latimer with hit with several motor vehicle offenses, including driving with a suspended license. Police continue to investigate.

MEET YOUR COUNCILMAN MEETING IN LOWER TOWNSHIP

Lower Township Councilman Tom Conrad is holding a meet and greet session tonight at Township Hall. Conrad will be available from 7 until 8:30 PM for the meeting that is open to all township residents. The meeting is scheduled to be informal and provides residents with a chance to address their questions and concerns to one of their councilmen.

JUDGE BATTEN HEARING CASE INVOLVING WILDWOOD RECALL


Superior Court Judge Ray Batten is hearing a case today relating to the attempt to recall two of the three city commissioners in Wildwood. Batten began a hearing this morning regarding the attempted recall of Mayor Ernie Troiano and Commissioner Bill Davenport. The hearing was suspended this morning, and is expected to continue this afternoon. Wildwood Municipal Clerk Chris Wood had ruled that the recall was unsuccessful.

DEAL ON PONDERLODGE CLOSE TO FINALIZED

Friday was deadline to hear on the Ponderlodge matter, and the state did not go forward with plans to demolish the site. State officials will give Stockton College a Memorandum of Agreement, and the school will have 10 days to sign. The agreement for the lease will place a branch of Stockton College on the Ponderlodge site for 20 years, and leave an option for renewal. The college will be using only 10 acres of the 253-acre site.

SOME PAST ALLEGATIONS AGAINST WW COP ROMEO WILL BE HEARD

Some past complaints against Wildwood police officer David Romeo can be used in his upcoming trial for official misconduct and simple assault. Superior Court Judge Ray Batten determined on Friday that four of five complaints are fair game in the case. It is alleged that Romeo kicked two handcuffed suspects in the head. The officer has previous complaints of excessive force, including punching a suspect in the face.

FOUR YEARS IN PRISON FOR LOBSTER ROBBERY

The man that stole 91 lobsters will spending the next four years of his life behind bars. Anthony Jones admitted in May to trying to steal the lobsters from Bally's Atlantic City in February; he was initially caught when a surveillance camera worker noticed the man's bulky clothes. The Atlantic City man must serve at least three years of the four-year sentence, under the terms of his plea agreement. The 38-year-old man plead guilty to third-degree burglary.

CUMBERLAND COUNTY COLLEGE BEGINS LOOKING FOR NEW PRESIDENTS

A national search has begun for the next president of Cumberland County College. The college is using the Association of Community College Trustees, a Washington D.C. based group, to guide the search process. A interim president has the job until June 30, 2010. The previous president Ken Ender left the job to take the same position at Harper College, in Illinois.
